About the program

The UADY has received foreign students in different academic modalities for over 25 years. Initially special courses for them were organized, usually during the summer, and since some years ago, there is the possibility for foreign students with sufficient knowledge of Spanish to join the regular courses offer of our institution.

The Autonomous University of Yucatan is located in the city of Mérida, the capital of the State. Founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo, the city combines the features of a colonial city with the comforts of a modern metropolis that offers all the amenities and services a community of approximately one million inhabitants may need. This community is also renowned for its tranquility, its hospitality and traditional customs. 

It has a privileged location that allows going to a variety of interesting sites in very reasonable times, from clean beaches and archaeological areas internationally recognized, nature reserves, and four hours away from the Riviera Maya. The city of Merida has tropical climate with a rainy season which lasts from June to September. The coolest months are November, December, January and February with temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. 

Cultural life is rich and varied with free activities for each day of the week in addition of countless private events of very high level such as exhibitions, concerts of the Symphony Orchestra, Ballet and Opera. To this we can add several restaurants, cinemas, shopping malls and bars which results in an intense social life for the Yucatecans.  

The city of Merida can be reached via area, as it has the International Airport "Manuel Crescencio Rejón". You can also travel by plane to Cancún, Quintana Roo and take first-class buses to the city of Merida. From the city of Cancun Airport there is a very good service of taxis as well as buses, more economical, that makes the journey from the airport to the bus station in Mérida. There is also a van service leaving directly from Cancun Airport to Merida.
